What is IMaST?
PEARY Middle School is an ‘Integrating Mathematics and Science through Technology (IMaST 2)’ Project Site! This year, 7th and 8th grade science and mathematics classrooms at Peary MS are participating in an exciting Los Angeles Unified School District grant program that includes using wireless laptop computers, electronic presentation boards and tools, student response devices, and computer and Internet-based resources to promote increased student achievement. These classroom technologies have been placed at PEARY MS as part of the LAUSD Integrating Mathematics and Science through Technology (IMaST) project - a program supported by a No Child Left Behind (NCLB) grant. The purpose of the program is to show the impact that increased classroom use of technology will have on student and staff proficiency with electronic learning tools and to increase student achievement in algebra. Mathematics and science classrooms at eighteen middle schools across LAUSD were selected for the program. Each school has been assigned a lead coach to work with the on-site coaches and teachers at the eighteen schools. To help students succeed in their schoolwork, 7th and 8th grade students at PEARY MS will have access to many exciting wireless computer, electronic, and Internet-based resources to reinforce learning in the classroom and at home. In addition, every student at Peary MS will be given an E-mail account for communication with each other and with experts in the field. With the introduction of this equipment into their classrooms, teachers will be exploring and implementing new ways to make school more exciting and meaningful for your child. Información de IMaST Proyecto Matemáticas y Ciencias Integradas por medio Del Projecto Tecnológico (IMaST) en Peary Middle School Este año, las aulas de Ciencias y Matemáticas del Séptimo y Octavo grado en nueve escuelas intermedias estan participando en un emocionante aprendizaje de estudio del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Angeles que incluye el uso de computadoras portátiles inalámbricas, la presentación electrónica en pizarrón y herramientas y recursos basados en Internet para promover el logro del estudiante en álgebra. Estas tecnologÃas estan puestas como parte de LAUSD de Matemáticas y Ciencias Integradas por medio del Proyecto Tecnológico (IMaST) -un programa federal apoyado por el fondo de Ningún Niño Se Quede Atrás (NCLB). El propósito del proyecto es estudiar el impacto que el uso de la tecnologÃa en el aula llevará al logro del nÃvel académico del estudiante en álgebra. Aulas de Matemáticas y Ciencias en nueve escuelas intermedias, en todo lo que cubre LAUSD, fueron seleccionadas para el programa. Se ha asignado a cada una de las nueve escuelas un entrenador principal para trabajar con los entrenadores y los maestros locales en cada escuela. Para ayudar a los estudiantes a triunfar en su trabajo escolar, los estudiantes del Séptimo y Octavo grado tendran acceso a muchos recursos emocionantes de Computadora e Internet para reforzar el aprendizaje en el aula y en casa. Además, a cada maestro y estudiante se le dará una cuenta de correo electrónico para la comunicación entre sà y con los expertos en el campo de estudio. Con la introducción de este equipo en sus aulas, los maestros estarán explorando y aplicando nuevas maneras para hacer la escuela más emocionante y significante para su niño.
